My little sister is getting married.  Eeeekkkk!!!  It still doesn’t feel quite real that my baby sister is getting married this summer.  Seriously, when did she go from being a little girl with wild banana curls to a beautiful, (and very grown up) young woman?

For as long as I can remember my sister has loved the color pink.  Sometime during the planning of my own wedding, I made an off hand comment that when she got married her bridal shower theme would be ‘Think Pink’.  So when the bridal shower planning began it seemed only fitting to follow through with ‘Think PINK!’ theme.

Creating invitations is one of my favorite creative things to do in preparation for a party.  Invitations set the stage for an event.  They serve as the guests’ first glimpse of what is to come.  So I wanted to give the guests a small taste of the event while providing them with all the details they need.

After reviewing a ton of invitations, which provided ample inspiration, I started designing the Think PINK bridal shower invitation.  The bridal shower invitations took a few iterations.  All the details of the invite from the font and color to the wording and design had to be spot on.

Here is the final product:

With the bridal shower invitation I enclosed a recipe card for each of the guests.  My sister has been getting into cooking over the past few years; this seemed like the perfect way to build her recipe collection.  Originally, I had planned to design and print custom recipe cards, however time got away from me and I ended up purchasing recipe cards online instead.

Here’s the copy for the back of the invitation {it’s kind of hard to read in the pictures}:

One small request that won’t be too hard…

Bring a Recipe

{Bride Name} & {Groom Name} will soon say, “I do.” They’ve got lots of love, but they’ll need to eat too!{Bride Name} might like to try your favorite cake, or that dish your friends always ask you to make.

So don’t forget the recipe card on this special date. Fill it in now, don’t hesitate. At the shower will be a recipe box to fill so bring this card or mail it back if you will!

All in all, I am very happy with how the invitation turned out.  My sister was very pleased with the bridal shower invitation design, which was the most important thing.

Last June my girl Erin got MARRIED!  The wedding was beautiful and the husband, Jellybean and I had an amazing time.  I am just so honored to have been her Matron of Honor.  Though we aren’t related by blood this girl is like a sister to me.  Our birthdays are just 10 days apart and we’ve know each other our entire lives … we met while our parents were preparing for our birth at lamaze class.  But enough mushy stuff, let’s talk about the bachelorette party!

The bachelorette party and bridal shower were held the same weekend.  I already shared the Badass Bachelorette Survival Kits we made for each of the ladies for the big night out.  What I haven’t shared was the theme for the evening or the details of the pre-party.  I’m ashamed it has taken me so long to get this post together!

Bachelorette Party Ideas: Kamasutra Drinks | Life's Tidbits

Saturday night was ‘sex’ themed … yeah, I know, but it’s a bachelorette party.  The night was broken into three groups …

“Foreplay” – Drinks/Bachelorette Games/Pantie Game
“Midpoint” – Dinner
“Climax” – Dancing!

The other DC based bridesmaid’s came up with the fantastic idea of doing Kamasutra themed drinks during the “foreplay” portion of the evening. They were so tasty and the at the bachelorette really like the little details and descriptions of each of the drinks.  Assuming I am remembering correctly after searching my emails (errr why didn’t I do this earlier again?!) there were 4 drinks…

  1. The Perfect Manhattan and the Kamasutra Probe (sweet vermouth, extra dy vermouth, bitters, bourbon)
  2. The sexy devil (vodka, cranberry, dry vermouth, lemon peel, cherry)
  3. The Naked Martini (It’s a take on the classic dirty martini).
  4. Can’t find the name … POUT … Vodka, grapefruit and rosemary (pictured above)

And here is the drink table my friend put together … that guy still cracks me up!

Have you seen this before at a bachelorette party?  Any recommendations on other fun ‘bachelorette’ themed drinks?

For Jellybean’s birthday party I made a first birthday chalkboard sign.  It made for a great decoration and everyone took sometime to read the tidbits we included on the poster.  My mother raved the whole weekend about how cute and unique it was (clearly not unique if you’ve been on Pinterest, but either way) I was thrilled with her feedback!

My mom asked if it was possible to make some tweaks and create a bridal shower version of the chalkboard sign.  She was throwing a bridal shower for a co-worker in a few weeks and thought it would be a perfect for her party.  I gave it some thought and figured why not?!  We sat down and came up with a list of fun things that could be included on the sign.  She called her friend and asked for answers to some of the items she didn’t already know.  Armed with the sign content I got to work!

It took a little bit of finesse, but I was able to adapt the 1st birthday sign into a bridal shower chalkboard sign!

Inspiration & DIY Directions

I think this would be a really cute detail for at the wedding (like near the guest book and/or card box) or maybe even a bachelorette party.    Either way the sign was a huge hit with the bride.  Bonus is my mother was a happy hostess!!

In case you are interested … I used the following fonts: MomsDiner, ReturnToSender, KGMakesYouStronger, and Adobe Devanagari as well as these dingbats: FramesAndRiboons, Bergamot Ornaments and AEZ Wedding Dings

Have you made any chalkboard signs for a bridal shower?  What’s your favorite personalized decorations for a bridal shower?

A couple of weekends ago I took off my mommy hat and put on my ‘adult’ pants for my oldest friend’s bachelorette party!!  My family and friends were joking that I would be calling it a night around 11pm, however I am happy to report I stayed out dancing with my friends until 2am … sometimes I really do surprise myself!  As I’ve gotten older I have become more into going out to dinner than a going out clubbing or to a bar, but once in a while it is definitely fun to let loose and have a late night.  And lucky for me, my husband was kind enough to handle baby duty for the whole evening and the next morning so I could get some sleep.

As the bridesmaids and I started to brainstorm for the bachelorette party I took to Pinterst (obviously) to see what ideas were out there.  First I checked out my Fling Before the Ring board to see what I previously pinned and I immediately found something that triggered an idea.  For my bachelorette, my maid of honor had put together little goodie bags for each girl.  I loved the idea and wanted to do something similar.  Enter the badass bachlorette survival kit inspiration, which can be found here.

Badass Bachelorette Survival Kit | Wedding | Life's Tidbits

It took us a little while to determine what should go in each bag.  In the end each survival kit included:

  • Penis Straw {not pictured}
  • Altoids
  • Chocolate
  • Party Beads
  • Bangles
  • Red Lipstick
  • Scratch a Dare
  • Advil

Originally, I had intended to print everyone’s names on the front of the bags and ‘Badass Bachelorette Survival Kit’ on the other side, however the printer and the bags didn’t get along well.  Hand writing everything on the bags would have been a possibility if I had nice hand writing.  Overall I am really happy with how the survival kits came out.  I think the bride-to-be and her possy put the kits to good use!! =)

FREE Badass Bachelorette Printable can be downloaded here.  I have uploaded the MS Word version so you can add/remove survival kit items as needed.  I really get bummed out when I find a fabulous printable and then can’t use it because it’s un-editable.  You will need to download two free fonts for this printable:  Pottery Barn and FangSong.  I purchased 4×6 Cardstock to print the survival kit message on.

Did you do bachelorette party favors or survival kits?  If so, what did you include in the bags?

I’ve spent the past few weeks sharing my photos, but this week I wanted to change things up a bit.  Soooooo this week’s photo Friday was taken by Sara from Photos from the Harty!  Sara is not only a great friend, but she’s an amazing photographer!  Without further-a-do here’s a little note from Sara about her photo …

Hannah’s Special Day!  Preparing to walk down the aisle, Hannah is surrounded by her closest friends.  The day was prefect.  The weather was warm, the breeze was gently blowing, and love was all around.  The sun set over the ocean as Hannah and Brad said, “I do.”  I couldn’t have been happier to be part of their special day!

Happy Friday!!!
